About Planning.scot

At Planning.scot, we provide independent, expert chartered town planning advice rooted in real experience of Scotland’s planning system.

Led by a Chartered Town Planner with almost 20 years of professional experience, Planning.scot brings extensive knowledge of planning practice across rural Scotland, with significant experience working throughout some of the country’s most geographically diverse and environmentally sensitive areas.

Our background includes extensive experience in development management and planning enforcement within local government, providing a detailed understanding of how planning authorities assess proposals, interpret planning policy and make decisions in practice. This insight allows us to offer clients clear, practical and commercially-focused advice based not just on policy, but on a genuine understanding of how the planning system works from the inside.

Over the course of our career, we have worked across rural Scotland on a diverse range of development proposals, spanning some of the most complex and varied planning environments in the country. Our experience ranges from small-scale householder development and rural housing projects through to major infrastructure applications, including some of the largest wind farm and hydro developments in Scotland.

Working in these areas has required experience across a wide spectrum of planning issues, including landscape and visual impacts, natural heritage, environmental impact assessment, rural housing policy, infrastructure delivery, planning enforcement, historic environment considerations, access, flood risk and environmental constraints. This breadth of experience means we are equally comfortable advising on straightforward domestic proposals, complex rural development projects and large-scale strategic applications.

We understand that the planning process can often feel complex, uncertain and time-consuming. Our role is to provide straightforward, professional advice to help clients navigate that process with confidence, identify risks at an early stage and maximise the prospects of a successful outcome.

Whether you are a homeowner, landowner, business, developer or community organisation, Planning.scot offers a professional chartered planning service built on experience, integrity and a genuine understanding of Scotland’s planning system.

Our work is governed by the Royal Town Planning Institute’s Code of Professional Conduct.
